Roots & Bedrock

Born & Raised
in the UK.

Lea with British Lego Character

Before I was architecting enterprise design systems, my roots were forged in raw logic and operational grit. Born in the UK, I grew up as a military brat — new schools every couple of years, learning early how to read a room, adapt fast, and find my feet anywhere. At 12 I was sent to military boarding school in Germany. In my final year, my family moved back to the UK overnight. The entire curriculum flipped. I crammed a year’s worth of material in months, passed my exams, and — more importantly — learned how to triage chaos and rebuild momentum when everything changes under you.

After a BTEC in computing, I started in technical operations in Crawley as a mainframe programmer and rose to Shift Leader running mission-critical IBM systems. Picture a high-security, raised-floor data centre straight out of *Hackers* — water-cooled beasts, tape robots, and 12-hour shifts where mistakes weren’t an option. Pure, unforgiving systems thinking.

A short trip to America to meet my mother and half-brother unexpectedly turned into a career, a wife, a son, and a lifetime of adventures and great friends.

In 2018 I returned to the UK to be close to my father and give my son that important generational connection. For the last few years I’ve worked remotely as a Strategic Shared Asset across four concurrent TBC Corporation platforms — B2C ecommerce, Franchise CMS, and B2B wholesale systems — proving that high-trust collaboration and complex delivery don’t care about time zones.

The Philosophy

AESTHETIC EFFICIENCY.

I believe design is a strategic growth engine. Every interface must yield commercial value, and every system must be optimized for long-term engineering scalability.

HOW I DECIDE & LEAD (FAQ)

Strategic Triage & Design Philosophy.

Success begins with prioritizing high-impact wins. My methodology focuses first on a Reverse Funnel strategy—fixing checkout and transaction leaks where stakes are highest. Once the core transactional layers are secured, we design for intuition using clear behavioral cues to make the right choice the easiest one, then scale those local wins into broad, repeatable enterprise strategies.
I believe behavioral analytics, heatmaps, and structured user replays should always guide the design roadmap. Guesses and gut feelings are replaced with rigorous heuristic evaluation and live pilot results. This evidence-based strategy allows us to resolve internal pushback objectively and align stakeholders around proven user data before writing a single line of production code.
High-fidelity design must be balanced with strict engineering feasibility. I focus on finding the shortest path to value—cutting unnecessary system noise to guide users to their goal as fast as possible. True stewardship means delivering conversion-focused, brand-loyal interfaces that stay inside technical and performance budgets while driving clear commercial outcomes.
INSPIRATIONS

Crafting in the quiet moments.

Inspiration strikes me in the quiet moments - during early morning strolls along our local river. One of my favorite things to do is pop to London to explore the latest exhibit at the design museum with my boy.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Sandbox of
Making.

My son (who's studying industrial design) and I are building his product company - exploring the overlap between physical products and brand. It's a fun, scrappy sandbox for rapid iteration: making, testing, refining, and learning in public.
